2022 NIU Football Game Promotions Celebrate Alumni, Community & More

DeKALB, Illinois – A full slate of promotional days, sponsor giveaways, Northern Illinois University’s 115th homecoming and the team’s 10th anniversary Orange Bowl celebration are just a few of the highlights surrounding the six games of Huskie football at home in 2022.

Before every home game, all fans are invited Courtyard on the West Side of Huskie Stadium, a free gathering place. The courtyard features music, a visit from the Huskie Marching Band, Silverettes and cheerleaders, a Kids Zone with inflatables, games, food and drinks available for purchase, and the Huskie Athletic Fund tent. This year, NIU’s new radio station – 94-9 WDKB – will host the Toyota Huskie Nation Pre-Game Party starting 90 minutes before kickoff from The Yard. During the November MACtion games, The Yard moves inside the Chessick Practice Center.

The season opener is Thursday, September 1st Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day with all NIU employees eligible to purchase tickets through the buy one, get one free offer. To take advantage of this opportunity, faculty and staff can email [email protected] with their NIU email address to receive the promotional code or present their staff ID at the ticket windows on game day.

NIU game on Saturday, Sept. 17 vs. Vanderbilt is set to be a special day as NIU will celebrate 2012 Huskie Team 10th Anniversary that made a historic run to the Orange Bowl after winning the MAC Championship in a double overtime thriller over Kent State. Team players will gather throughout the weekend and be introduced on the field during the first half. The Vanderbilt game is too Band Day and Scout Day. On October 8, alumni, fans and others are invited to “come home to NIU” to celebrate 115th Homecomingone of the oldest such celebrations in the nation, as the NIU football team takes on Toledo at 2:30 p.m. A full schedule of campus events is scheduled throughout the week, and NIU Athletics adds to that schedule with the induction of 2022 Hall of Fame Class on Friday, Oct. 7, including the current Huskie coach Thomas Hammock, Chandler Harnish and Chad Span of soccer and Kristin Hoffman volleyball. Besides, NIU is celebrating 50th Anniversary of Title IX on homecoming weekend, as female student-athletes from throughout Huskies history — more than 1,900 in all — are invited back to connect with current members of NIU women’s sports teams and participate at the Homecoming festivities. A special brunch and panel revisiting that history will take place on Sunday, October 9 at the NIU Convocation Center.

For MACtion games on Wednesday, Nov. 2 against Central Michigan, the Huskies will recognize Hometown Heroes, including members of the military and first responders, while NIU will face Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday, Nov. 16 for the Bowl Mallory, in honor of the late Bill Mallory, who led both teams to MAC titles during a long career.

Finally, fans are invited to cap off their Thanksgiving weekend with a traditional Saturday game on Nov. 26 when NIU takes on Akron for Senior Day with a special jersey giveaway that day, courtesy of National Bank old.

The Senior Day jersey giveaway is one of at least four different giveaways throughout the season offered by NIU game sponsors. The first 1,000 fans at the September 1 season opener will receive a 1str State Bank Drawstring Bag. For the Vanderbilt game, get a Huskie Brand FNBO headband. A Homecoming giveaway is in the works with game sponsor Northwestern Medicine. Giveaway supplies are limited, so be sure to enter the gates early.

The Akron game is also the second of two “Pup Club Days” of the season with NIU Pup Club members receiving a ticket to both the Oct. 8 Homecoming game and the home season finale. There are also some promotions at the game, such as the Hy-Vee Kick, where a fan will have the chance to win free groceries for a year at five of NIU’s six home games.
