You didn’t see the headlines today that a federal court blocked the Trump administration from cutting energy funding for blue states. It’s billions of dollars appropriated by Congress for a variety of clean energy projects across the country.
The Trump administration made a decision, and they accepted it – they decided that only in the blue states, only in the states that didn’t vote for Trump, they would cut all that funding. They will drop funding in states that voted for Trump. They will cut it in states that didn’t vote for Trump.
A federal court ruled today that that’s illegal and blocked the Trump administration from doing so. Today’s ruling comes after another federal court blocked Trump from shutting down large offshore wind farms in Rhode Island and Connecticut. According to today’s court, Trump’s shutdown of that project was also illegal.
And so, yet another federal court blocked Trump from doing that, too. Then the wind farm will be able to proceed. Both orders follow today.
Last night, yet another federal court blocked Trump, this time from cutting funding to the American Academy of Pediatrics. It’s a doctor’s group of pediatricians who criticized the duck-level lunatic quackery at Trump’s Department of Health and Human Services under RFK Jr.
Trump responded by canceling federal funding for the American Academy of Pediatrics. Now a judge has ruled that is illegal retaliation. And so, Trump is barred from doing that. That amount should be refunded.
The decision comes after another federal judge blocked Trump from cutting federal election funding to states in retaliation for not changing their election rules as Trump wants. The judge said, “The Constitution does not give the President any authority over the administration of federal elections.” And so, Trump put a stop to that, too.
Shall I continue? I could go on and on. Another federal court recently blocked Trump from freezing billions of dollars for child care and social services, again, in Democratic states, as some kind of punishment against those states for electing Democrats, punishing them by temporarily cutting aid to needy families.
Because, you know, you know, what would Jesus do? Trump was also recently blocked – by another federal court – from doing that.
It’s almost as if he’s lost all time and everywhere. There will still be people in America who are shocked by Trump’s repeated, brazen and persistent violation of the law. The courts no longer seem surprised by that, and the courts are now telling him very clearly, every day, and often several times a day.
And it’s not just the courts, I know you know, in one 48-hour period last week, we had a vote in the Senate for a war powers resolution to stop Trump from further military adventurism. In Venezuela, five Republican senators sided with Democrats to pass that war powers resolution. It was enough to move forward that it’s going to get another vote in the Senate this week.
That came on the heels of Trump and the 17 Republicans in the House siding with Democrats on the Affordable Care Act, at least temporarily, to try to undo a disastrous decision by Trump and Republicans on their so-called big beautiful bill. The decision sent health insurance rates through the roof for thousands of American families.
Seventeen Republicans passed, defied Trump and joined with Democrats to pass the health care bill in the House.
Now it’s coming to the Senate. Trump is now whining about whether and when he might have to veto it if it even passes the Senate, because he certainly wants to make sure people’s health insurance premiums cost nothing more than doubling or tripling what he personally did. That seems to be what he wants.
I mean, what we’ve just seen in Congress is the worst rebuke Trump has received from congressional Republicans since he’s been back in office this whole disastrous year.
