17 Arrested After Viral Video Describing Business As ‘Strip Club’ At California ‘Bikini Cafe’

Police have shut down a cafe known for its bikini-clad staff after “complaints of illegal activity” and what viral TikTok described as a “strip club”.

Seventeen people were arrested at the DD Cafe on Thursday, Feb. 5, following a police investigation into the Garden Grove, Calif. establishment, the Garden Grove Police Department (GGPD) said in a Feb. 5 news release.

The department’s Special Investigations Unit at DD Cafe “followed a complaint of illegal activity occurring within the business,” GGPD said. On February 5, police issued a search warrant at the establishment. According to the release, gang suppression officers were on the scene.

GGPD’s Sgt. Nick Jensen said Orange County Register That police found DD Cafe staff serving customers in bikinis, in what the newspaper described as “various states of clothing”.

The Los Angeles Times The business was reported to be operating as a “Bikini Cafe”. The Yelp page for the business features photos of employees in bikinis, and lists it in business categories for “coffee and tea,” “juice bars and smoothies” and “adult entertainment.”

Jensen also said Orange County Register Businessmen were among the 17 people arrested in the February 5 bust.

The cafe violated public nudity and alcohol ordinances, among other Garden Grove municipal codes, said GGPD Sgt. The business was not allowed to sell alcohol on the premises, the newspaper reported, citing officials.

According to the police, in addition to the arrests, DD Cafe has also been red-tagged. That means the business needs to cease operations until the various violations are addressed, Jensen said Orange County Register. The business is currently listed as closed on Google.

The owners of DD Cafe could not be reached for comment. A GGPD spokesperson did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The police investigation and arrests came after a video describing the Orange County establishment as a “strip club” went viral on TikTok.

“So today I accidentally went to a strip club, and I know what you’re thinking. ‘By chance?’ No, actually, for real,” user @dosdaygirl, identified by CBS News as Paulina Abena, says in a Feb. 2 video that has amassed nearly 2 million views.

Abena describes DD Cafe as “topless” on TikTok, which she visited after searching for coffee shops in her area and finding the now-closed establishment. “They mean double D like breast,” she says of the business’s name. “So I walk in and everybody’s naked. Literally, they’re all naked. … I’m the only non-naked woman in the place.”

Jensen said that the police had earlier taken action against the ‘Bikini Cafe’ in Garden Grove Orange County Register.

He told the newspaper that officials believe similar establishments are operating elsewhere in the region.
