Ramsey expressed frustration that Scott spent his entire life building wealth through hard work and smart decisions, only to be faced with a huge tax bill. He said that even with financial discipline and good money habits, people need to navigate the system carefully to protect their money from the government.
“This guy is my hero right here,” Ramsey said. “We teach you all to be. But then you need to be aware that there are forces in the market that don’t like you succeeding.”

Converting a $6 million traditional IRA to a Roth IRA would incur a hefty upfront tax — about $2 million — but that money would be completely tax-free later, Ramsey told Scott. Another option is to spread the conversion over several years to make the tax burden more manageable.
Ramsey recommended that Scott convert his entire $6 million to a Roth IRA at once and invest in the broader market, letting the money grow over time.
“I’m mad at you right now because it’s a $2 million bill that you’re willing to pay,” he said. “I think you want to do it all at once, though. The sooner you start tax-free, the sooner it will benefit you. So, I think I want to do it.”
