Pro-Palestinian activists met with Rep. shouted Haley Stevens, D-Mich.
When Stevens, a pro-Israel Democrat, walked on stage with a group of union workers, the crowd booed him for supporting Israel.
“Democrats, I love you, even when we disagree,” the congresswoman said, but audience members continued to boo and boo her.

As Stevens left the stage after her remarks, several attendees stood up, put their fists in the air and chanted: “Shame on you.”
The tense moment underscores the Democratic Party’s race to the left, and how support for Israel has become a central flashpoint in Michigan’s competitive three-way Democratic primary in a state with large Jewish and Arab constituencies.

Stevens has come under fire from progressive Democrats for her longtime pro-Israel stance and support for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
His primary competitors, by contrast, have leaned more left on the issue.
Senate candidate Abdul al-Sayed, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow accuses Israel of genocide and swears by AIPAC and the pro-Israel lobby.
Stevens recently upset Michigan progressives by disapproving of far-left online streamer Hassan Picker, who has a history of making anti-Semitic and pro-Hamas statements.
Picker has described some Orthodox Jews as “birthers,” claimed the United States “deserved 9/11,” and downplayed sexual violence in Israel during the October 7 attacks. He denies accusations of anti-Semitism, but continues to say that Hamas is better than Israel.

Stevens warned of political consequences for Democrats if the party embraces Picker, told Jewish Insider, “Somebody’s campaigning with someone who’s not going to win in Michigan.”
McMorrow, while rejecting a pro-Israel stance, also slammed El-Sayed for embracing Picker and taking a harder line against anti-Semitism than his left-wing foe.
Some attendees shouted “Abdul” as McMorrow walked off the stage at the convention over the weekend, signaling support for the most radical Democrat candidate.
The swing state contest is expected to lead to Republican former Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., who has been endorsed by President Donald Trump, for the GOP nomination. Democrats are playing defense in the blue column to keep the seat vacated by retiring Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich.
Hassan Picker declared that the American empire is “rapidly disappearing” and will “inevitably collapse” during a controversial speech at Yale University’s Political Association on Tuesday.
The battleground race is one of three Senate contests rated as a “toss-up” by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.

Stevens, the only Democratic candidate in the race who has served in Congress, has been promoted by allies of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, DNY. TIME reported That Schumer has also opened the door to supporting McMorrow, though continuing to hold Al-Sayed at arm’s length.
