It is often said that “the first loss in war is the truth.” Criminal warrants recently released in Germany show that the war continues to claim its victims. However, the warrant could prove to be a major indictment not only of Volodymyr Zelensky’s government, but also of former President Joe Biden.
This week, a German court issued an arrest warrant for Ukrainian Serhiy Kuznitsov, which may finally confirm what has long been suspected: that Ukraine was responsible for the 2022 sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines in waters near Denmark and Sweden.
The Biden administration may have been forewarned. A Ukrainian whistleblower allegedly said years ago that a six-man team of Ukrainian special forces planned to charter a boat, dive to the sea floor and sabotage the Nord Stream project. The operation was led by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valery Zaluzhny.
However, after the attack, many in the Biden administration and the media speculated that Russia had destroyed its own pipeline, despite evidence and arguments to the contrary. It was another convenient claim of a Russian false flag operation that allowed the Biden administration to ignore the possibility that Ukraine was not only involved in environmental crimes but was also deliberately lying to its allies.
Over the years, some of us have questioned the Biden administration’s official account of the available evidence of those responsible.
The suggestion of a Russian attack on a Russian pipeline has never seemed logical. However, the administration was funneling billions in support of Ukraine, a fund that now exceeds an estimated $180 billion. Ukraine sabotaging a pipeline to our allies would hardly have been appropriate when many were questioning the cost to American citizens.
The Biden administration was not alone in seeking intervention for Ukraine, as Zelensky denied responsibility despite evidence to the contrary. After another alleged Ukrainian subversive was found in Poland, a Polish court blocked his extradition to Germany and ordered his release. the reason? The judge ruled based on the Ukrainian refusal. Instead, he declared that the act was done in the name of a just war. (Poland is on the frontline against Russian aggression in Europe).
Italian courts did not engage in such rationalization. It ordered the extradition of Kuznitsov, believed to be a key figure in the plot. The attack took place in the German port of Rostock while chartering a yacht using fake IDs and a screen of intermediaries. Kuznitsov claims he was an army captain in Ukraine at the time.
If the investigators are right, it wasn’t just the Ukrainian government lying to us. Biden was also likely informed of this evidence by intelligence agencies. However, Biden nevertheless suggested that the Russians were hiding the truth. “The Russians are spreading misinformation and lies. We will work with our allies,” he told the crowd. [of) precisely what happened] Listen to what Putin has to say. We know what he is saying is not true.”
Ironically, even if we were told about this evidence, the public might still support the commitment to Ukraine. After all, Ukraine is the victim of a gruesome attack that includes repeated accusations of war crimes against Russian forces. However, the public has a legitimate expectation that a country that receives billions in support does not engage in environmental attacks on our allies. These pipelines were in the economic zones of two NATO countries.
As the Germans work to uncover the truth, the question is whether the American public will be given transparency into our own government’s involvement or knowledge. The public was told to pump billions into the war while the administration allegedly covered up Ukraine’s attack on Western pipelines — and then may have misled the public.
The public has a right to know if the CIA was told in advance that this attack was coming and either gave tacit approval or said nothing to our allies.
While Johnson often quoted his 1929 line about truth in war, the following line was equally poignant: “This mode of propaganda in which … men are war-hungry in their patriotism and false in their desire to fight. We have seen it in the past; it will happen again in the future.”
It could have happened in America, and Truth wasn’t the only casualty. The American people were treated like chumps who couldn’t handle the truth.
