A GoFundMe was created for a woman convicted of a live-streaming fatal crash that killed her sister

A GoFundMe was created to raise funds for the funeral of Obdulia Sanchez — a woman previously convicted of live-streaming the 2017 drunk-driving crash that killed her younger sister.

Sanchez, 26, of Stockton, was killed and another man injured in a Dec. 2 drive-by shooting.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to the 700 block of Gertrude Avenue on a report of shots fired just after 7 p.m. A man and Sanchez were found at the scene with gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital, deputies said.

Sanchez later died from his injuries.

“Your support will help us focus on healing and remembering the person she was, rather than worrying about the financial burden during this difficult time,” said Gloria Sanchez.

The mother said she wanted to honor her child’s life with a Catholic burial surrounded by the love of family and friends. However, she said that the cost of the funeral was more than the family could afford.

“Losing a child is something no parent should ever have to deal with, and the pain has been overwhelming, especially as we are still grieving the recent loss of my husband,” Gloria Sanchez wrote on GoFundMe. “Our family is struggling to cope with so much loss in such a short time, and we are doing our best to support each other and begin the long process of healing.”

He said the family had suffered an unimaginable tragedy with the death of Obdulia Sanchez.

The fundraising goal is $9,000.

Gloria Sanchez, mother of Obdulia Sanchez and creator of the fund, said she is reaching out to the community with a big heart to help with her daughter’s funeral expenses.

In 2018, 19-year-old Sanchez was sentenced to six years and four months in prison for driving under the influence while live streaming a crash that killed his 14-year-old sister.

He was convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide with bodily injury or death to more than one victim, and aggravated assault/endangering the health of a child.

The car driven by Sanchez crashed into the shoulder of the road in Los Banos. Authorities say he overcorrected, causing the vehicle to overturn, eject and kill Jacqueline Sanchez.

Prosecutors said Sanchez was live-streaming on Instagram while driving, and the video showed him taking his hands off the steering wheel.

The recording showed him leaning over his dead sister after the crash.

Reports from authorities said Sanchez called 911 after the crash.

“Can you come get my sister, she’s (expletive) dead,” Sanchez was quoted as saying in the report. “Dude, I just got into an accident and I was DUI. Can you come pick us up?”

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said it obtained Sanchez from Merced County on Feb. 14, 2018.

CDCR said she received 404 days of pre-sentence credit for time spent awaiting sentencing and was eligible for credit-earning opportunities while in prison.

Sanchez was released to parole supervision on September 21, 2019, after serving his full sentence as defined by law, CDCR said in a statement.

While on parole, Sanchez was sentenced to five years, four months for resisting or attempting to resist a peace officer and possession/possession of a firearm by a felon or drug addict as a second-striker.

CDCR said they received him from San Joaquin County on June 17, 2021.

He was released to post-release community supervision with the San Joaquin Probation Department on January 25, 2022.

In 2023, Sanchez was again sentenced to two years, eight months for a DUI with a legal BAC of .08 within 10 years of the specified violation as a second striker.

He was taken into CDCR custody on June 1, 2023, from San Joaquin County.

Sanchez was released on April 9, 2024, to post-release community supervision with the San Joaquin Probation Department.

Later that year, he was sentenced to four years for criminal intimidation causing great bodily harm/death as a second striker.

Sanchez was received from San Joaquin County on July 25, 2024, CDCR said. She was released on parole supervision on September 30, 2025.
