Barron Trump’s marriage pitch to a Danish princess goes viral

A proposal of sorts has gone viral online.

Amid recent news coverage of the US attempt to take over Greenland, the account shared “metapolitical irony” in X had an idea, calling it a “simple diplomatic solution”.

The account, titled “Miss White,” suggested Baron Trump, the only child of President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump, would marry Princess Isabella of Denmark as the second in line to the throne.

“The simple diplomatic solution is for Baron Trump to marry Princess Isabella of Denmark and give Greenland to America as a dowry,” the post read.

With millions of users, nearly seven million and counting, this post was first shared on January 7, with thousands sharing their thoughts in the comments.

Here’s what to know.

What people are saying

While some commenters had fun sharing tips, crack jokes and memes, others supported the proposed union: “This is how we solved conflicts in Austria in the old days of the Habsburg Monarchy,” said one user.

“This would actually be a very clever deal,” wrote one user. Another user said, “If life was as simple as Bridgerton’s it would work.”

Others feared the potential repercussions.

“That’s not geopolitics, that’s medieval fan-fiction,” wrote another user. “Greenland is not a bargaining chip, Princess Isabella of Denmark is not a pawn, and Baron Trump is not a diplomatic tool. Nations are not exchanged through marriage, this is not the 1400s.”

And others, still, were hypothesizing whether or not they would be a good match.

How does Greenland fit into all of this?

Greenland, the world’s largest island, has been part of NATO ally Denmark since the 18th century.

The country’s Danish and Greenlandic leaders have made a point in recent months to emphasize to the American public and Trump that Greenland is not for sale.

While Greenland has its own local government (including a parliament that oversees some domestic and civil affairs), laws related to defense, national security and the economy are controlled by policymakers in Copenhagen.

Trump first expressed interest in buying Greenland in 2019 during his first term as president. In a joint address before Congress on March 4, 2025, the president said he plans to acquire Greenland “one way or another.”

The White House said it was discussing its options, including the possible use of US troops, a move that would send shockwaves through the NATO alliance and deepen the rift between Trump and European leaders.

Who is Princess Isabella?

Princess Isabella of Denmark arrives at a performance to celebrate her 18th birthday at the Old Stage of the Royal Theater in Copenhagen on April 15, 2025.

Isabella, second in line to the throne, is the eldest daughter of King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark.

Isabella is the middle child, younger sister of Crown Prince Christian and older sister of 15-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine. Isabella is a year younger than Baron, who turned 18 on April 21.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, the royal family spends their time between Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen and the Chancellery House at Fredensborg Palace on the Danish island of Zeeland.
