Liverpool may have had a slow start to the 2022/23 campaign, but Bournemouth’s visit to Anfield on Saturday was just the tonic they needed.
All thoughts of that depressing 2-1 loss to Manchester United vanished as they utterly destroyed Scott Parker’s side, their 9-0 win the biggest in top flight football since they beat Crystal Palace by the same scoreline 33 years ago seen.
Indeed, in the closing minutes, Bournemouth simply looked determined not to be the first team to concede 10 goals in a single Premier League game. There was almost a sense of relief among the Cherries at full time that an already embarrassing defeat didn’t become a complete record.
9 – Liverpool have scored nine goals in a single league game for the first time since September 1989 against Crystal Palace (9-0), while today’s win was the biggest in their league history (also 9-0 against Crystal Palace in 1989 and 10-1 against Rotherham Town in 1896). spectacular. pic.twitter.com/w8EM2GWvI0

However, this was a historic result: the first 9-0 in Premier League history in a game that did not involve Manchester United or Southampton.
