Pam Bondi has indicated she has a month to step down from her job as attorney general and hand the reins to her one-time deputy Todd Blanche, but that may not be the case.
The Justice Department scheduled a press conference with “acting” Attorney General Todd Blanche on Tuesday, indicating that Bundy was already out the door.
The Daily Beast asked the Justice Department to clarify. Regardless, Bondi’s name still appears on websites and social media.
However, the department’s website referred to Blanche as “Acting AG Todd Blanche” while streaming his press conference.

At the top of her comments on Tuesday, Blanche praised Bondi and said she hopes they will be able to continue working together in whatever the future holds.
Pressed directly on when Bondi’s last day would be, Blanche didn’t say.
“I’m the acting attorney general. As far as Pam Bondi’s last day on the job, I’m the acting attorney general,” Blanche said.
He noted that he is traveling with Bondi on Wednesday for a pre-scheduled event, and that they have been communicating regularly over the past few days “for a proper transition.”
Trump announced Bondi’s exit Thursday in a post on Truth Social in which he wrote, “We love Pam” and said she was “moving on to a much-needed and important new job in the private sector.”
Earlier in the day, Bondi tried to stay on the job a little longer, according to The New York Times. She was hoping for a “beautiful” exit. But Trump announced that he was expelled less than 24 hours later.

The Attorney General again tried to save face, declaring that he was excited to enter the private sector.
“Over the next month I will be working tirelessly to hand over the Attorney General’s office to the amazing Todd Blanche, before moving on to an important private sector role that I am excited about,” she wrote on X.
Her post was re-shared by Blanche, Trump’s former personal criminal defense attorney, whose social media account still lists her as a deputy AG.
But with Bundy giving himself months to move on, the timeline appears to be moving faster than he indicated.
The rapidly evolving timeline coincides with the firing of former Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem.
For one, neither Bondi nor Noem was in Washington, D.C., when Trump went public with the announcement that he would let them go.
Also, when Trump announced that Noem would be leaving the role, he indicated that she would stay until the end of March before becoming a special envoy, but that exclusion was quickly moved up as well.
Former Sen. After Markwayne Mullin was quickly confirmed by the Senate as the next DHS secretary, he was sworn in the next day, March 24, instead of waiting a week until March 31.
Trump has yet to announce who will be Bondi’s permanent replacement, but with Blanche assuming the acting title for a press conference on Tuesday, Bondi’s days are limited.
Blanche, 51, stressed on Tuesday how much she enjoys working for the president, as is typical for an acting attorney general, but did not anticipate taking on the role permanently.
“I love working for President Trump. It’s the greatest honor of my life,” he said. “If President Trump chooses to keep me as an actor, that’s an honor. If he chooses to nominate me, that’s an honor.”
“If he chooses to nominate someone else and let me do something else, I’ll say, ‘Thank you very much, I love you, sir,'” he added.
Blanche also acted as Trump’s personal criminal defense attorney when he was convicted of 34 felonies in New York in 2024.
