According to reports, the TV icon has been reflecting on those moments in recent days, particularly being one of the witnesses who witnessed the couple’s son Nick having a “very loud” argument.
“He keeps thinking, ‘What if I’d walked in? What if I’d pulled Rob aside or shut him down?’ An insider told Rob Shutter’s #ShutterScoop. “He feels like he could have changed what happened.”
“Conan is replaying every detail in his mind,” a second source said of O’Brien. “He’s wracked with guilt and wondering if something he did or didn’t do could have made a difference.”

24 hours after the party hosted by O’Brien, the Reiners were found with stab wounds in their Brentwood home.
Authorities have described the incident as a homicide after launching an investigation. Nick was arrested and charged with the double murder of his parents.
He is being held without bail and made his first court appearance Wednesday, where he waived his rights.
His arraignment was later set for Jan. 7, when he could enter a plea to two counts of first-degree murder against him. He could also argue for bail at that time, although it remains unclear if he will request it.
He is currently represented by attorney Alan Jackson, who has previously represented the likes of actor Kevin Spacey and filmmaker-turned-sex offender Harvey Weinstein.

If Nick is ultimately found guilty of murdering his parents, he could face the death penalty.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman made the announcement during a news conference earlier in the week about the murder.
“[Nick’s] The charges will be two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of multiple murder,” Hochman revealed at the time, per Fox News. “He personally faces a specific charge of using a dangerous and deadly weapon, namely a knife. These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.
Elsewhere in the press conference, Hochman also revealed that his team would “take into account the family’s views and wishes” during the sentencing. However, this will also depend on “the strength of the evidence, aggravating and mitigating circumstances, and broader policy considerations”.

According to New York PostA close family source shared that the actor and his wife were concerned that their son was still using drugs and that his mental health was deteriorating due to his addiction.
“Rob was telling people that he was scared for Nick and that his mental state was deteriorating,” a family friend told the news outlet. “These poor people did everything to help this child.”
In the past, the couple reportedly sent Nick to several rehab facilities in hopes of beating his addiction.
