Dollar Tree quietly makes the change customers have wanted for years

Dollar Tree has undergone several changes in recent years, with prices rising above $1.00 and introducing new pricing tiers. Some of these changes haven’t been very popular with the store’s core audience of discount shoppers, who tend to hit the store in search of bargains.

That’s why the recent update to Dollar Tree policy is likely to make shoppers very happy. This gives savvy shoppers a new opportunity to get items from The Dollar Tree at extremely low prices that did not exist before.

Here’s why the change in policy is such a big win for customers, who have waited years for the rule that is now finally in place.

News of Dollar Tree’s changed policy comes via an Instagram post by Crazy Coupon Lady, a money-saving brand founded by two coupon shoppers who advise people on stacking coupons and sales to get rock-bottom deals.

In an Instagram post, Crazy Coupon Lady declared that “Dollar Tree changed the game.”

“Starting this month, Dollar Tree is finally selling penny items to customers,” the post went on to explain. “For years they’ve declined, but thanks to a policy change, they’re now yours for $0.01 — if you can find them.”

According to several Reddit threads, Dollar Tree Store employees appear to have confirmed this change in policy.

“We got an email from our district manager with a message and new policy at the ops center,” said one poster.

More retail

“We are allowed to sell items that are part of the fourth quarter clearance program. They are now marked down to a penny in the system. However, when a customer brings them in for purchase, if they leave any on the shelves we have to go collect them.”

Other posters confirmed this, they received the same ops center message in their own stores.

Penny items are usually leftover items from clearance events. As the Instagram post explains, this includes items left over from the current $0.25 clearance. Use the following three tricks to take advantage of this new super low price.

  • Find items in the store that are marked down to a penny. There are some online lists that can help.

  • Confirm the $0.01 value using the in-store scanner.

  • Gather all the items you want before going to checkout, because after you make your purchase, the store staff will go and get the items.

This process means you need to be aware of the new policy. $0.01 items will not be advertised, and prices will not be featured on price tags in the store.

The good news is that quiet deals can mean less competition for items, as many customers may not be aware of the savings opportunity.

If you want to take advantage of a new bargain opportunity, you can check out items from the latest clearance bins at your local Dollar Tree to see if they’re available for a penny.

The Best Life has published a list of these items, including:
