Golden Grizzlies Baseball prepares for five games in seven days

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies are in for a busy week as they are scheduled for five games in seven days, with single games against Toledo (April 1) and Bowling Green (April 2), followed by a weekend series against Milwaukee ( April 5 – 7).

The Golden Grizzlies (12-15, 4-5 HL) are coming off a week to remember after taking care of Big Ten Michigan State, followed by a road series win against the Wright State Raiders.

In a 3-1 week, the Golden Grizzlies outscored their opponents, 46-20, as they blanked the Raiders in seven innings, 19-1, in their March 28 series opener. Lucas day led the way with nine hits in 20 at bats as the Golden Grizzlies went 3-1 on the week with a series win over Wright State. Had three hits and three RBI in a 19-1 win over the Raiders. Went 3-of-5 from the plate against Michigan State in a win and tallied three hits. On the week, he recorded eight RBIs, two doubles and a home run. in the lump, Hunter Pidek pitched a complete game (7.0 IP, rule-rule) against Wright State and allowed just one hit with one run. Finished a pair and did not let go for his second win of the year.

The Toledo Rockets (13-14, 8-4 MAC) enter Monday’s game having won five of their last seven and swept a series win against Northern Illinois where they topped the Huskies, 34-16. The Golden Grizzlies are the third Horizon League team the Rockets will face after falling to Wright State, 22-9, before winning their last Horizon League game against Youngstown State, 19-6.

Overall, the Golden Grizzlies are 5-9 against the Rockets and enter Monday’s game having won the last meeting. Oakland took the narrow victory, 4-3, as Jaxson Easterlin got the win with Brandon Nagh getting savings. Before the win, the Golden Grizzlies had lost three in a row as it went 12 years since their last win against the Rockets. With an 0-8 record on the road, Oakland looks to grab its first road win against Toledo.

Like the Golden Grizzlies, the Rockets are outscored by their opponents, 244-240, as Toledo has scored 169 runs on the year. The team has returned from the plate 258 times with 124 walks drawn, while hitting 45 home runs and giving up just 24.

Garret Pike leads the team with 26 RBIs in his 38 hits, while he has hit four doubles, one triple and nine home runs. Pike also leads the team with a .352 batting average and has tied 11 walks on the year with four steals.

SCOUTING OF SKITS

The Bowling Green Falcons (12-10, 9-0 MAC) will face a Horizon League team for the first time this season after being scheduled for a solo game against Youngstown State but canceled. The team had a tough non-conference schedule after facing Tennessee for a weekend series and dropping all three but 10 or more runs to run in all three. The Falcons enter Tuesday’s game on the back of a losing streak against Xavier after winning their last game against the Musketeers, 8-4.

Oakland is 4-6 against the Falcons and will look to snap a two-game losing streak, with the last win coming at home in 2022. The Falcons have visited Oakland Baseball Field for four straight games, while the Golden Grizzlies are 1-3. on his home field. A streak dating back to 2000, the teams are tied 3-3 in the last six meetings.

The Falcons are 243-239 on the season, having driven in 191 runs with 214 total hits and given up 185 total runs. The team has hit 39 home runs on the year with 31 doubles and nine triples for a .302 batting average. The Milwaukee Panthers (4-20, 3-6 HL) are second last in the Horizon League after winning their first game after opening the year with a 12-game losing streak. The team faces Valparaiso tomorrow (April 2) before its weekend series against the Golden Grizzlies after recently taking a series against Purdue Fort Wayne. The Panthers’ top win this season came at Wright State where they beat the Raiders, 19-6, in seven innings.

The Golden Grizzlies hold a 24-30 record against the Panthers and are looking for their third straight win against the team. Oakland has won seven of its last 10 meetings while the Golden Grizzlies are 9-18 on the road. The Golden Grizzlies average 5.76 runs per game, while the Panthers average 7.26 per game.

Milwaukee is outshot, 209-192, as the team narrowly eclipsed the 100-run mark with 103 total while giving up 180. Although it holds a .243 batting average, it holds its opponents to a .275 batting average. The team scored 42 doubles, while scoring six triples and seven doubles. The Panthers have been hit 206 times while striking out 176 and walking 145 batters.

Both Tyler Bickers and Carson Hansen are tied for the team lead with 17 RBI as Bickers leads the team with a .329 batting average. Hansen leads the team with three home runs and 10 doubles, while Gabe Roessler has tied for the most walks with 12. Luke Hansel leads the batters with a 2.74 ERA in seven games started as he has fanned 42 batters.
