Actor, singer, comedian and now mayor of a small town in California.

Martin Short has been announced as the next celebrity mayor of Funner, California, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Only Murder In The Building star is the fourth mayor to lead the city, with celebrities such as Rob Riggle, David Hasselhoff and Jane Lynch previously serving as mayor.

In a statement obtained by the media, Short, 74, said: ‘As mayor-elect of Funner, I promise to be more than a mouthpiece dressed in purple from head to toe, but instead the mayor of well throughout the damned state.’

“It is my goal to make every part of the already fun Harrah’s Resort SoCal even more fun, and I look forward to sharing my plans with all of my constituents in just six short weeks.”

Short’s term will run from 2024 to 2026, and the city of Funner recently teased the identity of their next mayor on their website, writing, “Just weeks away from the inauguration of our new mayor, we promise that this reign it will be “Nothing Short of Fun.” “”

Located in North San Diego, the town began as Harrah’s Rincon Casino and Resort before the Rincon Band of Luiseno Mission Indians voted to name the area Funner in 2017, according to Forbes.

Short’s role will see him work to increase the fun factor in the city with the help of Harrah’s Resort SoCal senior vice president and general manager Jill Barrett.

His inauguration ceremony will be held on May 13.
