Nebraska, Northwestern fans find plenty of fun in Ireland before Saturday’s game
YOU ARE STILL CONFIDENT FOR THE FUTURE. BILL: The NEBRASKA football team hit the grass TODAY FOR THEIR FIRST PRACTICE IN IRELAND. JULIE: WHILE THE TEAM WAS INSIDE AVIVA STADIUM, OUR ROB MCCARTNEY TOOK THE STREETS OF DUBLIN TO SEE WHAT THE HUSKERS ARE ALL ABOUT. ROB: MORE HUSKERS AND WILDCATS FANS ARE MAKING THE ROAD TO DUBLIN FOR SATURDAY’S GAME. BUT THE GAME ITSELF IS ONLY PART OF THEIR JOURNEY TO IRELAND. MANY LANDED IN DUBLIN, THEN SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. SOME PEOPLE KISS THE BLARRNEY STONE OR IN BELFAST, WHERE IS OUR JOEY SAFCHICK. STARTING TO SEE MORE OF THE NEBRASKA LOGOS IN IRELAND’S CAPITAL. I SPOKE WITH A TIFFAN FROM SOUTH SIOUX CITY IN DUBLIN’S STRAW. >> JUST TOURS, WATCH NEXT, LEARN A LITTLE ABOUT THE CULTURE. ROB: WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING AND GOING TO? >> A LOT OF HISTORY, OLD HISTORY, MEDIEVAL TIMES, IT’S WONDERFUL. ROB: JOHN, MOST IMPORTANTLY, IS PREDICTING A BIG HUSKERS WIN ON SATURDAY. THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF THINGS TO DO HERE. AND IT SEEMS THE PEOPLE OF DUBLIN ARE ALL ON THE GAME. THE GOVERNMENT IS, AND BUSINESSES DEFINITELY ARE, BECAUSE LATEST ESTIMATES THINK THE GAME WILL BRING ABOUT £63 MILLION. OR ABOUT $74 MILLION. VERY ON THE LINE, ANDY. ANDY: NOT JUST LOCAL, BUT FOR NEBRASKA. WE SAW WHAT HAPPENED WHEN IT DIDN’T GO THEIR WAY LAST YEAR IN ILLINOIS. WE WILL TALK TO THE HUSKERS AT 6:00. WHAT DOES MARK WHIPPLE WANT FROM CASEY THOMPSON? AND THE HUSKERS DELIVER SOME BLACKSHIRTS. YOU FIRST
Nebraska, Northwestern fans find plenty of fun in Ireland before Saturday’s game
The Nebraska football team took the field Wednesday for its first practice in Ireland. While the team was inside Aviva Stadium, KETV NewsWatch 7’s Rob McCartney walked the streets of Dublin to see what Husker fans are up to. For many Nebraska — and Northwestern — fans, the game is just one part of their trip to Ireland. Many landed in Dublin and then spread across the country. Some people went up to kiss the Discovery Stone or in Belfast. There’s no shortage of things to do – and it seems the people of Dublin are getting into the game. The government is showing interest and businesses obviously are, because recent estimates think the game and all the fans will bring in around £63 million, which is roughly $74 million in US dollars.
