The craft beer apocalypse, which industry experts claim began in 2023, is entering its third year and continues to leave victims in its trail.
The apocalypse reportedly began in 2023 after the Brewers Association posted a historic tally of more than 385 craft brewery closures for the year, Paste reported. Since then, many craft breweries have closed their doors.
The evidence that the apocalypse continues in 2025 is overwhelming, as more than 250 breweries in the U.S. closed permanently in the first six months of the year, and many more followed those closures in the second half of the year.
According to American Craft Beer, the reasons for brewery closures include rising costs of ingredients, labor and products, slow taproom traffic, and fierce retail competition.
One of the most recent closures was Miamisburg, Ohio, craft brewery Entropy Brewing Company, which revealed on social media that it will permanently close its business on Dec. 27, 2025, with no plans to file for bankruptcy.
Others include Descent Craft Brewing, a St. Petersburg, Fla.-based brewery that filed for bankruptcy in August in a plan to file for Chapter 7 liquidation and close; Exton, Pa.-based Iron Hill Brewery LLC and San Jose, Calif.-based Strike Brewing Co., which both filed in October; and Oregon-based Rogue Ales & Spirits, which filed in November.
And now, New Mexico-based Bosque Brewing Co. is closing all of its taproom locations and going out of business after a federal judge dismissed the brewer’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy case on Dec. 22 because it had too much debt to restructure, KOB-TV 4 in Albuquerque reported.
The dismissal of the Chapter 11 case will prompt the brewery company to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation until it can settle all of its debts with its creditors out of court.
Bosque Brewing said it will close all of its remaining pubs on Dec. 28 at 5 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, in a message it posted on its website Dec. 26.
“With heavy hearts, we are closing all Bosque branded public houses. Nob Hill will close today (Dec. 26) at 5 p.m. and the remaining taprooms will close at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28,” the message said.
The brewery had 11 locations in New Mexico before closing the brewery at 4980 Promenade Blvd. and its Restoration Pizza at 1607 Alcaldesa Street, both in Santa Fe, on December 3.
Bosque followed the Santa Fe closing with two more locations in Albuquerque, N.M., on Dec. 16, as it shuttered its Bosque West and Bosque San Mateo Public House taprooms.
After the Nob Hill location closes, Bosque Brewing has five remaining locations that will close at the end of the day on December 28.
“Bosque is built on community, and we are forever grateful to everyone who supports our taprooms, shares a pint with us, and makes our spaces feel like home,” the owners of Bosque Brewing wrote in a statement.
“Most of all, thank you to our incredible team, past and present. We will truly miss seeing your faces in our taproom. That part hurts,” the message said.

Two establishments that share facilities with Bosque Brewing, Restoration Pizza at 5161 Lang and Smothered Brunch at 102 Cottonwood, both in Albuquerque, will remain open, as they are owned and operated by unrelated entities. Both restaurants serve Bosque beers.
The Cottonwood location was a dual concept with Bosque Brewing occupying the space, not owned by Bosque Brewing, serving breakfast and brunch from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. and closing from 3 p.m.
Smothered Brunch will continue its 7 a.m.-2 p.m. operations, while Bosque Brewing closes at 3 p.m.
Restoration Pizza on Lang was also not owned by Bosque Brewing and continues to operate.
Bosque’s beer is not gone, however, and Albuquerque’s Marble Brewery will continue to brew and sell it, with some of Bosque Brewing’s brewery staff continuing with Marble.

Bosque currently offers nine beers available on tap, including Weekend Trails Southwest Pale IPA, Riverwalker India Pale Ale, Jetty Jack American Amber Ale, Elephants on Parade Wheat Ale with Fruit, Scotia Scotch Ale, Beyond the Trees Hard Cider, Up North Blonde Ale, Pistol at Blonde Ale, Pistol at 8 and 8. Salt and lemon.
Bosque’s closing message and list of beers are the only company information available on its website, which was still in operation on December 28.

The 13-year-old brewery and pizza chain added locations in 2024 and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September 2025 to restructure its business by bringing back home-brewing operations to New Mexico.
Bosque filed its petition Oct. 6 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Mexico, listing $1 million to $10 million in assets and $10 million to $50 million in liabilities, but did not disclose the reason for filing for bankruptcy in its petition.
