Pueblo games of the week to watch include basketball and wrestling

The winter sports season is finally ending its regular season.

Hockey as well as swimming and diving have already ended. Wrestling is entering its final stretch and basketball is coming down to its final week of games.

This week’s games to watch feature a plethora of basketball games to choose from.

Each week, the Chieftain will bring you the must-see games from all of Pueblo’s local teams throughout the week. Here are this week’s games to watch:

Basketball for boys

  • Pueblo East vs. Pueblo County at Hornet Gym Monday, February 12, 2024, 7:30 p.m.
  • Centennial Village vs. Centennial Pueblo Central Village at Pueblo Central High School Monday, February 12, 2024, 7:30 p.m.
  • Pueblo West vs. Pueblo South at Southwest Motors Event Center Monday, February 12, 2024, 7:30 p.m.

The boys basketball season is winding down and the South-Central League title is still up for grabs. Pueblo East will go to District on Monday, Central will host Centennial and West will travel to South all on the same night. The Scorpions have their final home game on Tuesday night, Rye on Wednesday and the Swallows’ final home game of the season on Thursday. Also on Thursday, East will travel to Centennial to end the season, South and Central will battle it out at Central High School for a possible share of the S-CL title, and finally, County and West will battle it out at the school Pueblo West High School.

The current standings in the S-CL are Central with a 7-1 record in first place, followed by South with a 6-2 record and Pueblo West rounding out the top three with a 5-3 record.

Basketball for girls

  • Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo East at Pueblo East High School Friday, February 16, 2024, 6 p.m.

The girls basketball season also ends this week. The Scorpions will have their final home game on Tuesday night. Also on Tuesday, Central and Centennial games at home for the Bulldogs, District will travel to East and South will travel to Pueblo West. Thursday will see Rye’s final home game of the season against Banning. Friday wraps up S-CL action for Pueblo teams as Centennial visits East, Central travels South to battle it out and West and County square off for a possible share of the league title. On Saturday, the season ends with Centennial hosting La Junta.

The current S-CL standings have Pueblo West on top with an 8-0 record followed by Pueblo County with a 7-1 record and Pueblo East with a 5-3 record.

Wrestling for girls

  • CHSAA State Tournament Thursday, February 15 – Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Ball Arena

The Pueblo Central girls who advanced through regionals will compete in the CHSAA state wrestling tournament this Thursday through Saturday at the Ball Arena in Denver.

Wrestling Boys

  • CHSAA State Championship Thursday, February 15 – Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Ball Arena

The Pueblo area boys who made it past regionals will compete in the CHSAA state wrestling tournament this Thursday through Saturday at the Ball Arena in Denver.
