Republicans Secretly Give Bombshell Warning to Mike Johnson as MAGA Rebellion Spirals

House Republicans are privately bemoaning Speaker Mike Johnson’s failure to lead on issues like the cost-of-living crisis and skyrocketing health care premiums, according to CNN.

GOP lawmakers were already reeling from voter economic concerns, a drop in President Donald Trump’s approval rating, and a Democratic breakthrough in a slate of key statewide races last month — not to mention the Jeffrey Epstein files and the administration’s efforts to block the president’s risky nationwide campaign.

This week, they received another wake-up call after the Republican candidate did so poorly against his progressive opponent in a special election in bright-red Tennessee, winning by just one point.

Privately, one GOP lawmaker told Johnson, 53, that his leadership was “slipping” and that frustration was “boiling over” among members of his caucus, CNN reported.

“Morale has never been lower,” the lawmaker, whose identity has not been released, told Johnson.

According to CNN, House members returned from the Thanksgiving break expecting to vote on a bill that would show Republicans are taking their constituents’ economic concerns seriously. Instead, they were told the main legislative effort of the week would involve regulating college athletics.

Meanwhile, Republicans have no plan to reduce health care costs after the latest GOP spending bill cut nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid spending and failed to expand health insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.

Premiums will rise next year for about 22 million Americans after the ACA credit expires, with the average recipient seeing their premiums double.

Although Johnson says he is working on the plan, some House members are frustrated because they don’t see any progress. GOP Rep. Carlos Gimenez insisted to CNN that he has confidence in the speaker.

Johnson promised to unveil the plan next week on Thursday, but many members of his own party still don’t know what it will include.

They also worry that it’s too late to pass legislation until the end of the year, and that unless the plan includes some version of extended subsidies — which is seen as unlikely — millions of Americans could be kicked out of their health care plans.

“We’re trying to come to a consensus on this. It’s a complicated issue. There are a lot of opinions,” Johnson told reporters.

Rep. Thomas Massey said a monkey could do the job of a House Republican

The Daily Beast has reached out to Johnson’s office for comment.

JOP lawmakers, however, are frustrated that the House is “missing in action,” as one California representative said thanks to Johnson’s decision to hand over power to Trump, CNN reported.

Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, who has frequently clashed with the president, accused Johnson of being a “rubber stamp” for Trump and warned that a flood of Republican retirement announcements was coming.

“You have very intelligent, hard-working people who have given up a lot to be here in Congress, only for them to come in here and rubber stamp what Donald Trump wants, and that’s outrageous,” he told CNN.

“That’s why you have so many people running for statewide office and retirement, because nobody wants to be a rubber stamp. You can get a monkey to do the job,” he added.
