Our top 4 sandwiches from pop culture

Pastrami on Rye: When Harry Met Sally

One of the most famous scenes in romcom history, this classic film features Meg Ryan as Sally Albright sitting in Katz’s New York City deli, getting the best of a pastrami sandwich. As each bite satisfies her mind and body, making her moan with joy, her date Harry Burns (Billy Crystal) and the entire restaurant look on. Finally, a woman can’t hold back the temptation and says the most famous line ever: “I’ll have what she’s having.” Interpret it however you want, but this pastrami on rye has become one of the most iconic sandwiches ever since. With its delightful composition, it will come as no surprise if Joey Tribbiani’s love for this sandwich came from Sally’s feedback.

What’s in it: Pastrami, mustard, mayonnaise, pickles and rye bread.

The Moist-Maker: Friends (Season 5, Episode 9)

How far would you go to save your favorite sandwich? Well, Joey keeps them a notch above his wives. But Ross is ready to fight his boss tooth and nail, even if it means costing him his job. The episode of Friends with “The One With Ross’s Sandwich” sees the Geller boy losing his mind over his favorite “Moist-Maker” sandwich, which is made from Thanksgiving leftovers. So when he disappears from his office fridge, and later discovers that his boss has eaten him, his high-pitched scream of “My sandwich” echoes far and wide. And so, the moist-maker becomes one of the favorite sitcom sandwiches ever!

The Perfect Egg Sandwich – Birds of Prey

Who needs the Joker when you have the perfect sandwich to make you happy? Gotham’s wild child, Harley Quinn, pines for the simple yet delicious egg and bread combination. And why not? When you spend your last dollar on your favorite breakfast and then the cops start chasing you, throw it out of your hand, and finally land on the concrete road. Losing the sandwich makes all the emotions rush and the breaking of the yolk is almost metaphorical for the breaking of her heart. Surprisingly, the sandwich steals the show in that particular scene, despite the neon-tinted, pleasantly chromatic setting.

What’s in it: Eggs, bacon, cheese and just a little hot sauce, stuffed between half a baguette.

Best Burger in New York: How I Met Your Mother (Season 4, Episode 2)

HIMYM is a show that thrives on its food and drink, thanks to Jason Segel’s Marshall Ericksen and his love of finding the best food in town. So when he decides to find the best burger in town with the rest of the gang, it turns out to be the adventure of a lifetime. Marshall doesn’t remember anything about the place, except that it was a small restaurant with a green door and a red neon sign, tucked away in some alley. After a series of hilarious events, they finally reach there and experience the wonderful pleasure. What’s most memorable about the burger is how Marshall describes it.

What’s in it: Sesame bun, beef noodle, lettuce, tomato, pickle, mustard and onion.

Thus some sandwiches have become so iconic that they are often synonymous with the show or movie they appear in. Which of these is your favorite?
