Salt Lake City (ABC4) — Multiple accidents, ski resort closures, and flight delays have been reported amid severe weather across the state.
Due to heavy snowfall rates, Alta Ski Resort closed early for the day, after receiving 41 inches of snow so far during this storm. The resort will reopen on Thursday. In addition, Brighton Resort announced it would close early, too, at 5 p.m. Snowbird has also closed early, after opening at 9 a.m. and receiving 16 inches of snow over 31 inches in the last 24 hours.
UDOT announced that SR-210 in Little Cottonwood Canyon will be closed from Thursday morning into Wednesday night for avalanche mitigation. The canyon mouth will close to uphill traffic at 12:30 a.m., and downhill traffic will close at Snowbird’s first entrance at 1 a.m. The canyon is expected to reopen at 8:30 a.m.

Uphill traffic in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons (SR-190 and SR-210) is also temporarily restricted due to congestion. SR-210 is currently closed to all uphill traffic at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon.
A multi-vehicle pileup at mile point 18 has closed I-80 near the Wyoming-Utah border between Evanston, Wyoming and Bridger Valley. According to Uinta County Fire and Ambulance, they have deployed five ambulances, and Evanston and Bridger Valley Fire and EMS crews are also on the scene.
The Brigham City Police Department shared that Sardine Canyon was closed this afternoon as emergency crews cleared the road.
Additionally, State Route 6 was closed due to some jackknifed semi trucks, but has since reopened.

In Parleys Canyon, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is warning drivers of significant delays on I-80 both eastbound and between Park City and Salt Lake due to multiple slide offs. They are urging the public to be careful around snowdrifts during hard work in the canyons.
Traction laws are in effect in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon. UDOT Multiple vehicle slide off reports on SR-190 in Big Cottonwood Canyon. They are asking drivers to be prepared for traffic delays in both directions as the road is empty.
They expect snow showers to continue on Wednesday, worsening road conditions and downhill delays with high volumes of traffic.

Many accidents
The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) reported more crashes across the state Wednesday morning.
Additional crashes occurred outside Tooele County, including I-80 near mile marker 150 in Summit County, US-40 West near mile marker 8 in Deer Hollow, US-191 near mile marker 269 in Duchesne County, and I-15 near mile marker 54 in Iron County.
Drivers can expect significant delays on I-80 eastbound and westbound between Park City and Salt Lake.

Flight delay
As of 2 p.m., 63 flights in and out of Salt Lake City have been delayed due to weather. The airport is open and snow removal is underway.
The airport shared that “winter weather conditions are affecting flights at SLC International Airport. We encourage travelers to check with airlines regarding any potential delays.”

University classes
Due to the weather, Utah State University has also canceled classes on the Logan campus beginning at or after 1:30 p.m. This includes classes that begin at the Logan campus and are held throughout the state.
Offices and student services will remain open.
The University of Utah shared that professors were encouraged to move their classes online due to inclement weather and dangerous road conditions.
High profile sanctions
There are high-profile restrictions on I-80 in Tooele County due to the risk of shocks, after two semi-trucks overturned in the area Wednesday morning. Such restraints are safety measures implemented to prevent tall or top-heavy vehicles from tipping over during strong wind conditions.
These restrictions are generally enforced along specific corridors, such as I-15 and the Legacy Parkway, when high winds threaten vehicle stability.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, two semi trucks exploded at mile marker 94 and mile marker 77 in Tooele. Events have since been removed.
