Snow returns to the Northeast this week, with a round of cold air to follow
Colder winds and another storm are expected to bring a dose of snow to the Northeast this week, after a thaw that has felt like the early days of spring in the region.
For the past week, AccuWeather experts have been monitoring the possibility of snow in the Northeast following a shot of storms and cold air over the Great Lakes midweek.
Snow is expected to begin in parts of Michigan, Indiana and Ohio Wednesday night and Thursday before the snow moves northeast. Parts of New England could also see snow on Friday.
“Light snow accumulations are most likely across the interior Northeast. The Appalachians and higher elevations in northern New England will also have a high chance of several inches of snow by the end of the week,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham.

Some high snow accumulation is expected downwind of the Great Lakes, Buckingham added.
Inches of snow across the Northeast interior could lead to slick travel Wednesday evening and into Thursday night.
In places like Pittsburgh and Buffalo, New York, travel could be slippery Wednesday afternoon and evening, while central and eastern New York will see some heavy snow Wednesday night.

It is expected to be cold and windy along with snow. Wind gusts of around 40 mph will be possible across the Northeast and New England Thursday and Thursday night, adding to any visibility concerns.
Will it snow on the Interstate 95 corridor?
Given the storm’s track, cities like Philadelphia and New York City are unlikely to receive several inches of snow. However, flying flakes in these cities is not out of the question.
Snow flurries are possible in New York City late Thursday, which could lead to slick spots and reduced visibility for commuters in time. Some far northern and western suburbs could get up to an inch of snow.

Even without a blockbuster blizzard for the Interstate 95 cities, there could still be impacts to travel across the region. “With a cold intrusion from the northeast Thursday night, untreated surfaces, even wet surfaces, will be easy to collect and bring slippery spots for the Friday morning commute,” added Buckingham.
Areas of New England, such as eastern Massachusetts and down east Maine, will be more susceptible to high snow totals, with storm chances remaining in these areas through Friday. Up to an inch of slick coating is forecast for Boston.
More snow on the way?
After this storm, the chance of cold and snow will continue.
Continued cold air and an active storm track are expected to bring more rounds of snow to the Great Lakes and Northeast, late this week but into next week.

Snow lovers and skiers disappointed by the recent thaw will at least have something to cheer about the return of consistently cold air.
Resorts will be able to make new snow to rebuild their base, and lake-effect snow showers may once again coat the landscape in some areas.
