Southern Utah (ABC4) — Courtney Townsend, a Utah woman who disappeared in 2023 and whose remains were later found in two locations in Kane County, is asking the southern Utah community for any information related to her disappearance.
Townsend was reported missing in 2023 when a vehicle was found in the woods south of Duck Creek and her mother was found. Human remains, later identified as those of Townsend, were found in two locations in Kane County, once in 2024 and again in 2025. According to the family, the case has gone “cold” since the remains were found, but they still have unanswered questions.
Courtney’s older sister, Dallas, said, “The police put a hold on the case.” “As far as I can tell, they have nowhere to go with it, and they’re not getting any answers that satisfy them and we’re not getting any answers that satisfy us.”
The family is searching for answers and trying to put the pieces of Townsend’s disappearance together.
“We just want to know what she was doing, telling our mom she was going home 15 minutes away, disappearing for hours and then being pulled into the storm,” Dallas said.
According to Dallas, this search for information has nothing to do with the police department, but is in the interest of “putting the puzzle together” and bringing closure to his family.

“I saw her kids this weekend and it was so hard because they’re spitting images of Courtney, and she doesn’t get to see them grow up, and it breaks my heart,” Dallas said. “The least I can do is give them answers about what happened to their mother.”
Dallas told ABC4 the family is putting up flyers on the road to Kane County and Kanab. The family posted information on the social media page about the flyer distribution.Justice for Courtney.“

“We’re trying not to forget him. I don’t want time to take him, you know, I don’t think it’s fair for him,” she said.
ABC4 reached out to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office for comment on the status of Townsend’s case but has not received a response at this time.
