Trump, 79, completely blew Levitt’s lie about his ill health

Donald Trump has publicly humiliated his spokeswoman, Carolyn Levitt, by contradicting her repeated assurances and excuses about her health problems.

Since the 79-year-old Trump returned to office last January, speculation about his hand injuries and his cognitive abilities has fueled, especially after he underwent a mystery scan in the fall — leading the Daily Beast to report on the president’s various medical problems, including swollen canicles.

Levitt, 28, has repeatedly claimed the reason for the discoloration on the back of his right hand — which the president has covered with Band-Aids, bandages and heavy makeup — is that “a man of the people,” Trump “meets and shakes hands with more Americans on a daily basis than any other president in history.”

While Levitt has also attributed the injury to the president’s regular aspirin use, she often blamed Trump’s handshake by answering questions about his hand, which was questioned earlier this month by Beast political correspondent Farrah Tomazin.

“The president is literally shaking hands all the time, the Oval Office is like Grand Central Terminal,” he said earlier this month.

Days after Trump injured his left hand — which he doesn’t use to greet people — the president gave a revealing interview to The Wall Street Journal on Thursday about his health.

Trump offered a different cause for the injury: excessive use of aspirin and his thin skin.

He told the Journal that he takes 325 milligrams of aspirin a day — four times the “low dose” of 81 milligrams used in daily treatment, according to the Mayo Clinic — despite his doctors urging him to take less.

The wound is visible in a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung in the Oval Office in August 2025.

This high use of prescribed aspirin, Trump said, was a major factor in the rash on his hand. But he told the outlet that he refused to reduce the dose because he has been on the same routine for decades, and is “a bit superstitious”.

Trump also said that he wears makeup because he has soft skin, and it burns when it’s “hacked.”

Discussing an episode in which Attorney General Pam Bondi, 60, surprised him during a high-five, he told the Journal: “The ring hit the back of my hand, and yes, there was a little cut.”

He added that after “someone beat him up again” he puts make-up on his hands, saying: “I have make-up, you know, it’s easy to put on, takes about 10 seconds.”

Trump also gave more details about his October scan, further embarrassing Levitt, who has repeatedly fended off questions about it from the White House podium.

She answered repeated questions without initially naming the test and leaned on scripted reassurances about her condition. On October 23, he declined to specify which test he received. On November 4, when pressed about why Trump had described it as an MRI, she said she would “check back” and that she was in “optimal physical health” and cited the Walter Reed visit as a routine follow-up.

When asked again on Nov. 12, Levitt relied on the language of the doctor’s memo, reiterating that Trump received “advanced imaging” as part of a routine exam and that doctors considered him to be in “extraordinary” condition, without explaining why the imaging was ordered.

Levitt’s position remained the same until Dec. 1, when Trump’s physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, released a memo describing the cardiovascular imaging. Levitt told reporters that the screening was routine and called the disclosure a form of transparency.

Even so, the White House’s favorite shorthand remains “enhanced imaging” rather than a clear, consistent label for what Trump has experienced.

In the Journal interview, Trump said he was telling people it was an MRI, but then corrected it: “It wasn’t an MRI … it was less than that. It was a scan.” He complained that getting the test handed critics “ammunition” because it raised questions about whether something was wrong.

The Journal reported that Trump and Barbabella eventually underwent the procedure as a CT scan to rule out cardiovascular problems, with no abnormalities found.

Levitt was quoted in the Journal as saying that the White House “often referred to the procedure as ‘advanced imaging,'” without addressing why Trump did not correct the MRI/CT details sooner.

In the Journal article, Trump also discusses his ‘cankles’ and why he can’t stay awake during public meetings.

The Daily Beast has reached out to the White House and Levitt for comment.
