Trump threw a fit Sunday over his biggest obsession

President Donald Trump on Sunday protested against legal efforts to block construction of a grand ballroom on the White House grounds.

“There is no practical or reasonable way to go back,” Trump wrote on his Truth social platform. “Too late!”

The National Trust for Historic Preservation filed a lawsuit last month to block construction of the ballroom after Trump dwarfed the main residence with little notice to make room for the new building in the East Wing.

Trump fired back:

“The so-called ‘preservationists,’ who make their money from the most unusual places, must not be allowed to block this much-needed addition to our Great White House, a place which never requires permission from the President to alter or enlarge, because it sits on special grounds, however large (and important!), that addition may be.”

U.S. District Judge Richard Lyons last week questioned the administration’s legal authority over the project and seemed skeptical of considering a possible injunction. The judge said he would make a decision next month.

Trump has said the ballroom’s cost of up to $400 million will be covered by private donations, raising ethical and other questions that the White House has yet to answer.

But on Sunday, he defended the planned facility as “a big, big, beautiful gift to the United States” and complained that the east wing had been “bastardized” by previous renovations.

Trump also said that “top secret” information about the project was leaked because of the lawsuit.

He wrote:

“Furthermore, in this instance, it has been done with the design, consent and approval of the highest levels of the military and secret services of the United States. Just by bringing up this ridiculous issue, unfortunately, it has already exposed a top secret fact. The stoppage of construction, at this late date, has already been ordered by the White House, when a lot of work was done. The country and all concerned.”

While he didn’t get more specific, the East Wing is the so-called Presidential Emergency Operations Center — aka the “underground bunker,” which Trump used during protests in 2020 — and the new project is likely to replace and/or upgrade the facility.

Trump has become obsessed with the project, which he brings up often without prompting. Earlier this month, he even interrupted a White House meeting with oil industry executives to get up, walk to a window and look at a construction site.

Trump deleted messages on Truth Social on Sunday about a range of topics, including complaints about the NFL, Canada and journalist Don Lemon. He also wrote some messages about the ongoing unrest in Minneapolis, which has only escalated since federal agents shot and killed 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretty.

But it was his message about the ballroom that he pinned to the top of his feed.
