Two more Heritage Foundation board members resigned amid the Tucker-Fuentes fallout

Two more members of the Heritage Foundation Board of Trustees, Shane McCuller and Abby Spencer Moffatresigned on Tuesday, citing concerns over Heritage’s direction and approach to combating anti-Semitism.

A statement from McCullar obtained by Mediaite reads:

when Ed Feulner He encouraged me to join the board of the Heritage Foundation, which I did to help advance America’s founding ideals. My intention was to work from within to advance conservative principles in alignment with our great nation.

Today, I have resigned from the Board of Trustees of the Heritage Foundation to advance those values.

Any organization that hesitates to condemn anti-Semitism and hatred—or to give a platform to those who spread them—can not credibly claim to support the vision that makes the Heritage Foundation the world’s most respected conservative think tank. And I cannot, in good conscience, remain on a board that is unwilling to face the errors in judgment that helped shape its credibility, its culture, and the conservative movement.

I leave with respect for the Heritage Foundation’s past, but I cannot support the course it has chosen for the future. My commitment to the principles that brought me here remains unchanged, so I must now step aside.

Moffat’s statement reads:

After careful reflection, I have resigned from the Board of Trustees of The Heritage Foundation. It was not an easy decision, given my family’s long and meaningful relationship with the organization, but it was necessary.

Heritage’s handling of recent challenges reveals a drift from the principles that define its leadership. When an institution hesitates to confront harmful ideas and allows errors in judgment to stand, it loses the moral authority on which its influence depends.

I am committed to the ideals of the American founding and to institutions that champion human dignity and responsible governance. But I cannot remain on board unwilling or unable to meet this moment with the necessary clarity and courage.

I am far from hopeful that Heritage will regain the stability, sanity, and sense of purpose that once played such an important role in American civic life.

after Tucker Carlson Had a friendly interview with a white nationalist leader Nick Fuentes Earlier this fall, the president of the think tank, Kevin Robertsreleased a scathing video defending Carlsson and criticizing him in what he described as a “toxic alliance”. Roberts’ handling of the situation was the subject of much scorn, including on the right, and he eventually backtracked.

The resignations of McCuller and Moffat were prompted by a Princeton professor and conservative elder. of Robert George Departure from the board. In a November Facebook post, George wrote:

I have resigned from the board of the Heritage Foundation. In favor of and in the name of legacy by Kevin Roberts, I can’t help but fully retract the video released on October 30th. Although Kevin publicly apologized for some of the things he said in the video, he did not offer a full retraction of its content. So, we reached an impasse.

Kevin is a good guy. He admitted that he had made a serious mistake. Being human myself, I have a lot of experience making mistakes. Differences of opinion about what was needed to right the wrong divided us.

I am sad to leave the Heritage Board. I have great affection and respect for Barb Gaby, who chairs the board, and my other colleagues on the board. I wish them and the Heritage Foundation all the best.

My hope for the legacy is that it will be unwavering and unwavering in its fidelity to its founding philosophy, the moral principles of the Judeo-Christian tradition and the civil principles of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. I pray that Heritage’s research and advocacy will be guided by the belief that every member of the human family, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or otherwise, is “created equal” and “endowed with certain inalienable rights by our Creator” as creatures made in the image of God.

That religion is the anchor for the Heritage Foundation, and for our nation, and for every patriotic American. It should always be that religion. If we stick to it even when expediency counsels compromise it, we cannot go wrong. If we abandon it, we sign the death certificate of the republican government and decree independence.

Heritage Foundation Chief Advancement Officer Andy Olivastro told Mediaite, “We are grateful to Abby and Shane for their legacy of service. Moving forward, we will continue to advance bold initiatives based on enduring values and our four cornerstones: the American family, the future of dignity and free enterprise, national security, and American heritage and citizenship.”

Olivastro added, “We have a responsibility to ensure the conservative movement is a governing majority for generations to come by developing serious ideas, concrete policies and practical solutions for the American people.” “Our mission is clear: we exist to save the Republic and preserve it for future generations.”
