Boys basketball: District 1-4A championship

South Walton 59, West Florida 53: A three-point game with about a minute left, the Seahawks eventually pulled away to win the District 1-4A championship.

No quarter-by-quarter results were provided. Individual statistics were not available.

West Florida finishes the season with a 15-11 record under first-year head coach Phillip Childers.

Boys Basketball: District 1-1A Championship

Paxton 52, Jay 31: Limited to single-digit points in the first, second and third quarters, the Royals fell in the District 1-1A championship game on the road at Paxton.

The loss also snapped an eight-game hitting streak that the Jays had compiled.

Paxton took an early 11-6 lead after the first quarter and extended the lead, 22-13, at halftime. Jay was held to seven points in the third frame, leading the Bobcats 36-20.

Jay scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Bobcats cruised to victory.

No individual statistics were reported.

Jay (15-9) still has a chance for an at-large bid to the regional tournament. Ranked fourth in the latest FHSAA rankings, the Royals will learn their fate Sunday with the FHSAA selection show beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Tennis: ‘Battle for the Panhandle’ at Tops’l Beach and Racquet Resort

The Pensacola Catholic boys and girls tennis teams competed in the second and third rounds of the round robin competition at the Battle for the Panhandle.

Both teams defeated North Bay Haven in the second round by a team score of 6-3. In the third round, the Crusaders boys team was defeated at South Walton, 5-4.

The girls team defeated South Walton, 6-3, in the third round.
