President Donald Trump’s penchant for drama is on a collision course with his self-destructive tendencies, his biographer says.
Author Michael Wolff, co-host Inside Trump’s head The podcast said the president’s personality traits were on display this week when it came to talks in Greenland. Ultimately, Trump backed away from his demand that the US take over the entire semi-autonomous island and his threat to impose taxes on several European nations until a deal is reached.
“It’s always important to remember about Donald Trump that along with everything else, he’s incredibly self-destructive,” Wolff told co-host Joanna Coles. “He’s made a big mess of himself … I think Greenland is the silver bullet pointed at his head, which we’ll forget about, but I don’t think we’ll forget about Minneapolis.”
Trump, Wolff said, is short-sighted, and his policy objectives should be seen as a means to draw public attention to himself and distract from the ICE shooting in Minneapolis earlier this month.
“Comes about Greenland because at midnight, he posted [what] It got into his head … and then it took on a life of its own, which had the benefit of distracting from the last thing it took on.”

The 79-year-old president, Wolff said, will continue that path as the midterm season ramps up.
“He will sacrifice for the Republicans … ‘The Trump Show,'” Wolff said. “The Greenland thing is, in no man’s language, politically astute. It’s just about Trump, Trump at the center of it, Trump creating, all these people to pay attention to, people putting him at the center of everything.”
Wolff then noted that a Trump insider had revealed to him the nature of the president’s penchant for conflict and headlines, even if they made him look bad.
“I think there was one Trump person who said to me, ‘You know… it’s not really that he’s interested or focused on starting fires. What he really likes is the firemen running to put out fires.’ And I think that goes on: He thrives on something other than politics or political success.
When reached for comment, the White House questioned Wolff’s credibility.
“Michael Wolff is a lying sack of st and a proven fraud. He routinely makes up stories from his sick and warped imagination, only possible because he has a severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted his peanut-sized brain,” said Steve House.
Trump will take his base of support with him when, or if, he leaves politics, Wolff also said during the podcast.
“All of this passes with Donald Trump,” Wolff told Coles. “Donald Trump is not replaceable. He is an absolutely unique figure. No one will be Donald Trump anymore, and this whole MAGA movement, it’s all directed at Trump. This is not ideological America. I often try to differentiate: it’s not a political base, it’s a fan base.”
